Creative Editor

Greg Somerlot has been a creative editor in Chicago for over 20 years.
Greg has been in the Chicago post-production community for over 25 years. He started off as an assistant online editor at Post Effects and then quickly rose to being a junior editor at Superior Street Post, in both the online and offline editorial worlds. As his love off creative editorial grew, he then went to Radar Studios, Chicago where he edited for 14 years, becoming the senior creative editor at the facility. He is currently the Senior Editor at PXP Studios/Chicago.
Because he started out in the online/finish path; Greg has full working knowledge of the entire production / post-production workflow and has often edited on-set during production to streamline the editorial process as well as help the director and effects team. Greg doesn't favor any particular style of editing; he loves cutting action based material as much as a dialog or humor driven spot. He enjoys the collaboration with agency creatives and producers as well as keeping the edit sessions light and enjoyable for everyone. Being at PXP studios allows him to get involved with a project at a very early stage, which allows for more creative input and a smoother process.
Greg presently edits on Adobe Premier Pro. Other previous editing platforms include Final Cut Pro and AVID Media Composer. While he's not a compositor anymore, he also has 3 years of Discreet Logic Smoke and 10 years of traditional linear online experience as well; so his knowledgable about the full post pipeline.
He also has decent hygiene, excellent social skills and passable sense of humor.
When he isn't editing, he can be found spending time with his wife and 2 kids (and menagerie of pets), playing or fixing his pinball machines, listening to a variety of podcasts, reading, playing video games, hiking, kayaking... or maybe playing pinball again.
